Additionally, nestled within the park’s boundaries is a serene 44-acre lake. With a remarkable expanse of nearly 6,500 acres of water and an impressive 488 miles of shoreline, Chain O’ Lakes State Park truly stands as the heart of this outdoor paradise.

A Rich Historical Legacy

Originally established in 1945, Chain O’ Lakes State Park spans across both McHenry and Lake counties in northeast Illinois. The park’s history traces back to the 1930s when it served as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, known as the Chain O’ Lakes Conservation Area. This area was later incorporated into the state park in 1957, preserving its natural splendor for generations to come.
